Brilliant & Balanced: Nourishing prana as summer approaches

Hello gritty pathfinders and heartful seekers,

I’m writing to you after a necessary restorative pause—one that came after a late night and early morning. Sometimes, life stretches us wide open. And when that happens, we’re called to come back to the breath, to the body, to the small rituals that nourish our prana, our vital life force. Week after week, we begin again.

Atha Yoga Anuśāsanam. - Patanjali | Now the yoga begins.

Let’s pause together now.

A bright, cleansing inhale.

A full, clearing exhale.

Try this with me- six gentle rounds, balancing the inhale and exhale to a count of your four- maybe boths hands hugging the heartspace. If you’d like, close your eyes. Let this be a moment of reconnection. Let this be a moment of replenishment.

You are brilliant. You are kind. You are deserving.

A yes for this moment. A yes for you.

As we move toward Summer Solstice, we’re also entering Pitta season in Ayurveda- governed by the elements of Fire & Water. The brilliance of the sun returns in full force, and with it: energy, enthusiasm, movement, and passion. Gemini, ruled by Mercury- the quickest planet- adds a layer of speed and stimulation. It’s easy to get swept up in doing, in giving, in achieving. The winds of purpose are strong right now.

And yet…
Enthusiasm can easily tip into overwhelm.
Inspiration can become depletion.
The fire that warms can also burn.

In this season of brightness, long days, high output and yes to life, Ayurveda gently reminds us:
Like attracts like. Opposites heal.

If the fire is strong, we bring the cool. If movement is constant, we welcome stillness. If the mind is racing, we turn to breath. A longer exhale.

Personally, I’ve felt Pitta rising—in the aliveness to meet new calls to action, the building of new offerings, the vibrant colors blooming at the farm. As a part desires to simply be... My pitta has brough with it- past perfection patterns trying to sneak in, asking for discernment among high standards. And I need the light, to lessen the pressure, to enjoy and trust. So I’m reminding myself (and you) that as we walk this path, we are together. Each our journey- yet all in the climb of inspiration, justice, peace, and deep presence.

So I ask you this week, in kindness and curiosity:

  • What are you feeding your body?
  • How is your sleep?
  • Are you drinking enough water?
  • And maybe most important- homage from a dear friend: What is inspiring you right now?

From my side, it’s the elements. The wind. The blossoms. The fire of the sun- filtered through trees. The water of streams that so too nourishes life- my dog, the donkeys, the plants. These moments are my teachers—and they’re shaping the practices I’m creating for the coming weeks.

To bring balance this season, we lean into the gifts of the doshas:

  • Kapha offers grounding, earth, and endurance.
  • Vata lends air- inspiration, movement, and breath- but used gently, like a breeze and not a storm.
  • And Pitta, in harmony, fuels transformation with compassion.

Let’s continue to nourish prana vayu, the upward life wind that supports vitality and clarity- on and off the mat.
