Off the Grid, Into the Heart - Touching Grief & Living Light

Off the Grid, Into the Heart - Touching Grief & Living Light

Dear ones,

The next few days I'll be off-grid, tucked into the forested sanctuary of Breitenbush Hot Springs—a magical, elemental place that holds such dear memories from my yoga therapy training days. The timing aligned, and through the generous support of family, I’ve been gifted space to recharge, refresh, reflect, and renew.

As Memorial Day approaches, I hope you, too, find time to pause and reflect—on those we’ve loved, lost, and those who live on through us. I return to this tender quote often, especially when I think of my father and ancestors:

“When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.”

When I find the river, the elements, the simplicity of nature- old school camping—free from responsibility—my heart is drawn to those I’ve lost. And with that comes the deep inner work: the recognition that I don’t need to feel guilt for having the chance to enjoy a place like this. I've learned that this internalized longing is tied to my lineage—my ancestors who worked so hard and had so few moments of freedom in pause. Now that I get to have a few, there are times I still feel unworthy of them.

There’s residue there. A story. A truth in my body. And also: an invitation to heal these wounded parts with space, presence, and a gentle undoing of the belief that rest is only for the privileged. That we must earn it. That peace is temporary, and the other shoe will drop. That we are not enough.

But I remind myself—and I remind you:
You are enough.

As Mark Nepo so beautifully writes, “You are not a goal to be achieved or an obstacle to be overcome.” You are allowed—and fully supported—to return to the simple, joyous, sacred rhythm of life, before the world asked you to be something else.

May this season be one of remembrance, return, and renewal. Carry your longing and your grief as signs of deep, wholehearted love. Let joy meet you where you are. And let the pause touch you.

Here’s to another wholehearted week. Full of steady steps, thoughtful choices, laughter and focus, with reflective hearts.
In love & light,
Maya
