So Hum: Tending the Inner Garden

Om So Hum – I am the Universe.
Om | The sound of creation. The pulse of the universe. So Hum | I am That.
The breath of life moves through me, reminding me of the quiet truth within.
Welcome to Monday dear yogis.
This week, I invite you into the gentle, grounding current of Om So Hum, a mantra that has held me in both silence and sound as I gathered this share. It echoes the spirit of the season: a return to wholeness, to nature, to trust.
After a sweet weekend honoring all forms of mothering—Earth mother, human mother, inner mother—and receiving a powerful practice from Kundalini Guru Gurmukh Khalasa, I come into this rainy Monday with a softened and strong heart. The rains are welcome. After so much sun- direct prana- the waters arrive as nature's own way of recalibrating. Let this be our guide.
Themes We’re Exploring
Mother Love & Mental Health May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This season, with the bustle of growth and stressors of daily life, demands the balancing calls to deepen inward. Just as spring builds, we too are growing. This is the sacred balance of mothering—nurturing life while discerning what needs pruning- For both our desired seeds and undesired weeds- through rumination or neglect- will grow. We then discern, we mother our children, our art, our responsibilities, our projects, and our inner world.
Taurus Season & the Full Moon in Scorpio This week we straddle earthy Taurus and watery Scorpio. Taurus, the bull, teaches grounded presence and steady action. It governs the throat and neck—places where many of us hold tension or repress expression. Scorpio, aligned with the full moon, invites depth and transformation. The rains outside mirror the nourishment happening within. A time to receive, release, and remember our own rhythm.
Elemental Wisdom: Earth, Fire, Water
- Earth: Roots. Presence. The physical body.
- Fire: Tapas. Cleansing. Disciplined devotion.
- Water: Intuition. Emotion. Feminine power.
In our yoga, we use these elements to balance our nervous system and inner ecosystem. Our practices this week will work through the second, fifth, and sixth chakras:
- 2nd Chakra (Svadhisthana) – Pelvis & hips. Sensuality, creativity, vitality.
- 5th Chakra (Vishuddha) – Throat & neck. Expression and truth.
- 6th Chakra (Ajna) – Third eye. Intuition and insight.
We support the flow of energy between our emotional center and our voice, between intuition and action. From softening the throat to cleansing the hips, we make way for deeper healing, clarity and insight into being and doing.
Practice Themes & Tools
This week we’ll explore:
- Moon Salutations – to honor the feminine and yin quality of the full moon
- Neck, throat, chest release practices – to de-stress and open channels of expression
- Hip-openers and twists – to clear emotional energy and nourish clarity
- Breathwork for regulation: Lions Breath- clearing, Bhramari (Humming) - soothing, and Ujjayi- warm nourishment
Let your yoga be a sanctuary, a respite, and renewal. To honor your growth and to trust your path.
