Yoga Therapy Foundations & Credentials

For Clients, Clinicians, and Curious Practitioners

Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga. It is oriented toward reducing or managing suffering, improving function, preventing recurrence, and changing our relationship to our conditions and experiences.

As taught by leaders such as Gary Kraftsow and T.K.V. Desikachar, yoga therapy recognizes:

  • The multidimensional nature of human experience
  • Our essential nature as whole and worthy
  • That change is possible through appropriate, personalized methods
  • The central role of personal practice in transformation

As a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), I align with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) in upholding these standards and principles in my work.

A word from a Client

"I am in a helping profession and I have experienced feelings of burnout and compassion fatigue within my own practice. Working with Maya helps me feel reenergized, refreshed, and nourished through emotional and physical practices that are personalized to me. Maya is excellent at being able to listen, attune to, and suggest practices and ideas based on what I am experiencing in the moment or on a given day. Her gentle, calm nature feels safe and contributes to creating a trauma informed environment." - Emma
